MIDDLEPORT – The Royalton Hartland Community Library is offering kids a way to keep their brains sharp while on summer vacation.

The library will host a seven-week program – each Thursday from July 3 to Aug. 14 – with interactive activities focused on science and reading for preschool and elementary students. Sessions will take place at the library, located on 9 Vernon St. in Middleport, and will be separate for preschool- and elementary-age students.

At 11:30 a.m. each Thursday, preschoolers can gather for interactive reading sessions.

At 2 p.m. each Thursday, different guests, including staff from the Buffalo Zoo, Buffalo Science Museum and local musical groups, will visit the library and present kindergarten through fourth grade students with science lessons. On July 3, for instance, Buffalo Zoo staff will give an educational presentation on ectotherms.

The NIOGA Library System sponsors the programs. The preschool story hours are also funded by a Grigg-Lewis Foundation grant.
