LOCKPORT – Sean P. McLaughlin, a Level 3 sex offender from Rochester, was arraigned Thursday in Niagara County Court on charges that he took a 12-year-old Town of Lockport boy out for a day Nov. 23 and lied about his name and address when the mother tried to pick her son up.

McLaughlin, 43, pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree kidnapping, one of them rated a sexually motivated felony, along with endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of failing to register Internet identifiers with authorities.

Deputy District Attorney Holly E. Sloma said McLaughlin allegedly gave a false address and wouldn’t disclose his full name when the boy’s mother called him. McLaughlin, who was living in the Town of Lockport at the time, was arrested Dec. 4 on a charge of showing indecent material to a child.

Defense attorney Robert Berkun said he’s been appearing in Town Court with McLaughlin for six months and not until Thursday was there any hint of a kidnapping charge. Sloma said it was the grand jury’s choice.
