My boyfriend and I were extremely eager for our friend’s birthday party at the area’s new talked-about club. But our stirring expectations were not met.
Stir, the new club located in the Seneca Niagara Casino, is a great idea with poor execution.
When you walk in, you will immediately be hit by a wall of smoke that seems to permeate all casinos, since smoking is allowed. The 7,500-square-foot club is on the first level of the main floor in the corner. Mike and I were somewhat taken aback, as it was not isolated from the rest of the casino and provided little to no privacy or intimacy from the gamblers.
We entered the club’s section and were greeted by friendly cocktail waitresses. We instantly found our friends and the birthday girl, dressed to the nines in a stylin’ cerulean sequin dress. The other ladies wore skinny jeans and chic skirts while the guys sported button-ups and blazers. I wore jeans and my leather jacket with boots to match.
Our group was socializing in a comfy booth, big enough to fit several guests. Plenty of other seating was available including slippery, squatty chairs with side tables and a circular bar with 40 high stools all around.
Cassey, the birthday girl, and others were sipping on a shared bottle of delicious dry red. There is no liquor bottle service at Stir, but you can order bottles of wine or champagne from $25 all the way to $500 for Cristal. Wine and champagne also come in tasting flights to sample the variety of selections such as Simi Cabernet, Apothic White and Dom Perignon.
I made my way to the bar to order a drink. I chose the Death by Chocolate martini made of Godiva Liqueur, Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Crème de Cocoa and milk. A delicious martini, maybe one of the best I’d ever had, but it came with a $12 price tag.
Other “Stir-tinis” included the Seneca Sweetheart, Man Overboard and the Dragonfly, all made with premium liquor.
Stir has several bottled beers such as Michelob Ultra, Heineken and Corona. Drafts include Coors Light, Southern Tier IPA, Angry Orchard Crisp Apple and more all starting around $5 each.
Drinks are in line with other upscale bars and clubs with wine $8 to $12 a glass and martinis starting at $12, but the prices were high for our budget-conscious wallets.
Stir has a 40- by 20-foot television screen behind the raised stage that showcases several acts between Thursday and Sunday. From DJs to live bands to the music videos played on the gargantuan screen, you will always be entertained while at Stir.
After a while, my friends and I decided Stir was a snooze and migrated to the gambling floor. Cassey and her boyfriend, Sammy, made their home at the craps table and stole the show by getting very, very lucky. This part of the night was undoubtably the most exciting event.
While Stir seems like it could potentially be a great place for people of all ages to hang out and dance, I can’t see myself going back just for Stir. It is a better fit for after-gambling drinks, or to see a specific DJ and band at no cover charge.
Stir’s advertising did a great job of giving us great expectations prior to visiting, however, they were even more successful at disappointing us.
Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. Monday to Sunday.
Scene: A mixture of young and old, some in search of post-winning or losing drinks and others ready to party it up for birthdays or bachelorettes.
Entertainment: No cover charge for Stir’s entertainment which includes two or more acts Thursday to Sunday.
Extra: Search #createastir on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to see what others are saying about the casino’s newest nightclub.
