WHEATFIELD – An expansion for a Lockport gravel pit and the site plan for a Niagara Falls restaurant were approved this week by the Niagara County Planning Board.
Both projects were referred back to the cities for final action.
In Lockport, Lafarge North America sought to add 9.1 acres of active mining space to its Redland Quarry site on Hinman Road. The enlarged pit would extend the life of the quarry by about two years, company officials said.
In the Falls, Merani Holdings won approval of a site plan to build a two-story, 13,500-square-foot addition, including a Tony Rome’s restaurant and a game arcade, at the Holiday Inn, 114 Buffalo Ave.
Merani received a 10-year property tax break on the addition from the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency in 2012, and in January won a pair of $550,000 grants, one from the city’s development agency and the other from the state’s USA Niagara Development Corp.
