OLCOTT – Krull Park Beach on Lake Ontario was ordered closed to swimmers Thursday afternoon by the Niagara County Health Department.
Ronald Gwozdek, principal public health engineer, said the daily water sample showed an elevated level of e.coli bacteria. He speculated that recent heavy rains had churned up the water, leading to the problem.
It was the first closing this summer for the beach, which had been plagued by E. coli-related closings in recent years.
Gwozdek said the beach will be closed until at least Saturday. He said another water sample will be taken today, and the rest results should be available saturday.
