LOCKPORT – The town Planning Board put approval for a Wrights Corners location of Hibbard’s Custard on hold for two weeks Tuesday, as applicant James Hibbard didn’t attend the board meeting.

A public hearing drew comments from Wrights Corners Fire Company President Lowell Dickinson and Chief Daniel Handrich, expressing fears that overflow parking from the stand might use the neighboring fire company lot, perhaps interfering with events or emergency response.

Board member Scott Carlson said Hibbard, whose family has sold custard in Lewiston for 75 years, added a second parking lot to his plan, doubling the available spaces from 15 to 30. The stand is to take over a former used-car dealership at Lake Avenue and Wicks Road.

The fire company officials also warned that their pole-mounted siren might endanger the hearing of Hibbard’s workers and customers, but Chief Building Inspector Brian M. Belson said, “We have houses all around there. It’s a non-issue.”
