Search crews are still combing the waters of Lake Ontario off the shores of Niagara County today for a boater who was last seen Wednesday afternoon.
John Supple, 60, of Lewiston was last seen at about 3 p.m. Wednesday northeast of the Wilson Pier at Wilson Tuscarora State Park. The search began after he was reported overdue at 9:45 a.m. Thursday.
Today’s search is focusing on an area mid-lake and moving west, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
Emergency responders are asking those near the Lake Ontario shore to keep an eye out for a 16-foot Starcraft camouflage-colored boat.
Multiple federal, state and local agencies have been participating in the search on the water and from the air, including Customs and Border Protection, Coast Guard stations in Youngstown and Rochester, a Massachusetts-based Coast Guard air unit, as well the Canadian Coast Guard. Crews from a Coast Guard unit in Detroit are on standby. Search crews have covered about 3,700 square miles over a 33-hour period, the Coast Guard said.
Anyone with information about Suppel’s whereabouts should contact the Coast Guard at 843-9527.
