NIAGARA FALLS – A man stopped for speeding on Niagara Falls Boulevard faced a number of additional charges after State Police uncovered a hypodermic needle filled with a liquified prescription pain killer.

Anthony J. Fields, 23, of North Tonawanda was charged Tuesday with speeding, possession of a hypodermic needle, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Troopers said they detected an odor of marijuana when he was stopped and a search found a glass pipe containing marijuana residue, a plastic bag containing approximately 7.5 grams of marijuana and a loaded hypodermic needle which contained suspected liquified Opana pills, which is a narcotic painkiller.

Fields was issued an appearance ticket and a return court date for Niagara Falls City Court for May 23.
