The West Side Rowing Club of Buffalo will be using a special gift of $2,000 from Mary Wilson, widow of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson Jr., to provide scholarships to the club for 12-year-old girls who have shown an interest in rowing.

The girls were among 230 from Buffalo schools who learned the fundamentals of seven sports on April 26 in Mary Wilson’s WNY Girls in Sports program in the Buffalo Bills Healthy Zone Fieldhouse in Orchard Park. Scholarships will be awarded during a program at the club later this spring.

The West Side Rowing Club took 20 rowing machines to the fieldhouse for the program and showed a video to introduce the girls to the sport. Coaches and rowers from five teams at the club assisted, including students from City Honors High School, Nardin Academy, Nichols School and Mount St. Mary Academy.
