A judge Monday advised a young woman whose nose was broken last year by a Niagara Falls drug dealer, after she had been reported missing and traveling with him, to do the same to her attacker once he finishes serving the 3½-year prison term the judge gave him.
“You seem like a nice lady,” State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller told the 18-year-old woman who was in the Buffalo courtroom for the sentencing of Sean Reed on drug, weapon and assault charges.
“But he busted your nose. If he ever gets out of prison, you bust it back,” Boller said.
The judge made the comment after he asked Reed if he had ever apologized for punching the woman in the face last year and breaking her nose.
After Reed said he had apologized, the judge asked his attorney what had happened to the woman following the May 22 attack.
The judge was told that she was in the courtroom, leading to his words of advice.
Reed, 26, of Amy Drive, was arrested May 22 after the grandmother of the then-17-year-old victim requested State Police help in locating her missing granddaughter.
Prosecutors said Trooper Keith Lucas tracked the victim’s cellphone to Main Street in Angola, where officers from the Town of Evans Police Department found Reed with the teenager, who had facial injuries.
After several denials, she admitted that Reed had punched her in the face, prosecutors said.
Police also found 34 Mason jars labeled and filled with marijuana in Reed’s Cadillac Escalade, along with a safe containing $4,500 in cash and more than a half-ounce of cocaine, prosecutors said.
They found a loaded semiautomatic pistol, another Mason jar filled with marijuana and a delivery log for Reed’s illegal drug-selling business in an apartment that Reed had been visiting, according to prosecutors.
Reed pleaded guilty as charged last month to second-degree weapon possession, various drug charges and third-degree assault. He faced a minimum prison term of 3½ years and a maximum of 23½ years.
He had previous convictions dating back nearly a decade for drug possession, driving under the influence of drugs, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and menacing.
