NORTH TONAWANDA – The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced Wednesday that it is seeking public comments on a brownfield cleanup plan for a vacant former insurance office at 31 Webster St., North Tonawanda.
Richard Tindell, executive director of the Lumber City Development Corp., said the vacant building has been purchased by Greg Doel, owner of Crazy Jakes, a bar-restaurant across the street, with the intention of fixing it up and finding a tenant. Tindell said the building was a gas station before it was an insurance office, and its brownfield status stems from that past use.
The DEC, which calls this the Vacant Office Space Site, has placed the cleanup application in the North Tonawanda Public Library and also offers information on its website. The deadline for comments is May 16.
