LOCKPORT – Dr. Jeffrey Schratz, a Lockport surgeon, was appointed to the city Fire Board Friday by Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey.
Schratz fills the unexpired term left by longtime member Thomas W. O’Shea, who died March 23 at age 75. He had just been reappointed in January to a four-year term. The four-member Fire Board approves all hirings and promotions in the Fire Department.
It was McCaffrey’s first appointment to a major city board since she took office Feb. 21. She said, “I believed it was critically important to recruit a professional with the experience, knowledge and educational background to serve our city as a Fire Board commissioner.”
Schratz said he was “truly humbled” that McCaffrey asked him to serve, “especially in light of the tough challenges facing the health and emergency services industry today.”
