LEWISTON – The Rev. James J. Maher will be inaugurated as 26th president of Niagara University during a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the university’s Gallagher Center.

The Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, former president of Niagara and currently interim president of St. John’s University, will conduct the investiture of Maher, who will then give an address. The inauguration is part of a week of activities, including two academic seminars on Thursday and a “Run Against Hunger” on Saturday in downtown Niagara Falls.

An inaugural liturgy also will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday in the upper level of the Gallagher Center, with Bishop Richard J. Malone of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo presiding and Maher’s brother, the Rev. John Maher, a 1976 Niagara graduate, delivering the homily.
