NIAGARA FALLS – A preliminary engineering and environmental review for the removal of the Robert Moses Parkway along the Niagara River Gorge is to begin in May, Assemblyman John D. Ceretto announced Friday.

Ceretto, R-Lewiston, said the New York Power Authority is paying $2 million to fund the work, which Ceretto called “the next step in opening up the Niagara waterfront for development and bringing more business into downtown Niagara Falls.”

The plan calls for the removal of the parkway between Main Street and Findlay Drive; reconstruction of Whirlpool Street, which runs parallel to the parkway, for improved visual and physical access to the gorge; and restoration of the area’s landscape and animal habitat.
