The temperature dropped to minus 3 degrees at 3:44 a.m. this morning, tying a record for low temperature for March 4 set in 1943.
But temperatures are expected to rise to a high of 19 by mid-to-late afternoon today, according David Thomas, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service station in Cheektowaga.
“We’re looking for a moderation in our air temperature going down to around 10 degrees tonight, but in inland areas, like Jamestown, Springville and Warsaw, it will drop into the single digits," Thomas said.
Normal temperature ranges for this time of year are highs in the 40s and lows in the mid 20s.
“By Friday, we should be seeing temperatures right above freezing and into the upper 30s. It’s still below normal but with the winter we’ve had, it’s a warming trend,” Thomas said.
As for snow, an inch or less is expected in the region. On Wednesday, an inch or more may fall but no appreciable accumulation is expected.
