NIAGARA FALLS – A Falls woman blamed her infant child, who she said distracted her as she tried to check out at a Walmart Superstore self-check out line, which caused her to leave without paying for 16 items valued at nearly $57 on Sunday.
Ashley N. McMillen, 25, of Royal Avenue, was charged with petit larceny at 4:37 p.m. Sunday at the Military Road store.
McMillen told police that she called for help from the self-checkout clerk, but no one responded, which caused her to ring up some items, but to miss others. Items included consumable goods, household items and infant shoes.
Officers said they checked store security which showed McMillen not ringing up certain items and did not show her motioning for assistance.
McMillen was taken into custody and a the child was turned over to a friend.
