In this, one of the most persistent winters in recent memory, no major storms are expected here, at least through the end of this week.

But we will get one quick blast of cold weather, with the low temperatures expected to dip to about 3 degrees tonight and 2 degrees below zero on Tuesday night, before daytime highs climb back into the 20s and 30s the rest of the week, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast.

While single-digit and below-zero temperatures are no picnic for anyone, there will be one consolation.

“The winds are going to be light, so there’s not going to be much of a wind chill,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jon Hitchcock said.

Meanwhile, the weather service issued a lake-effect snow advisory until 10 a.m. this morning for Niagara and Orleans counties. A similar advisory might have to be issued tonight for the same areas.

Light snow contributed to a slow morning commute and several accidents were reported, including a rollover on the Scajaquada Expressway near the Parkside exit.
