LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls burglar was assigned to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment Wednesday after asserting that his addiction to the painkiller hydrocodone was behind his crime.

Kevin B. Martin Jr., 30, of Ontario Avenue, pleaded guilty in Niagara County Court to third-degree burglary in connection with an Oct. 6 break-in at a home on Lewiston Road in the Falls.

Martin, who was ordered by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas to pay $610 in restitution to the homeowner, risks a seven-year prison sentence if he washes out of the treatment program.
